Here’s our pick of some of New York’s best dog friendly places to visit…
Visit NYC parks with your dog
There’s an incredible 843 acres to be explored at Central Park, with 23 dog friendly areas and designated off-leash spaces from 6-9am — alongside dog drinking fountains and year-round dog events organised by Central Park Paws.
In the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, the purpose-built Tompkins Square Dog Run is another great place to socialise with your dog from 6am to midnight — featuring a crushed sand area with three swimming pools, picnic tables and dog drinking fountains.
Dog friendly shopping
New York even boasts dog friendly shops such as department stores Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. You can browse books at Barnes & Noble with your dog by your side. If you’d like to shop for your dog, head to the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle where Bouchon Bakery sells a decadent range of pet treats enriched with foie gras, chicken stock and diced bacon, or pick up natural grooming products and fashionable dog accessories at Spoiled Brats NYC (340 W 49th St — between 8th Ave & 9th Ave).
Dog Friendly Restaurants
Plenty of New York restaurants allow dogs in their al fresco dining areas, ideal for summer vacations. Try the Affinia Dumont boutique hotel’s The Barking Dog restaurant (150 East 34th Street), which has a dog-friendly outdoor patio area.
Sightseeing with your dog
Tread the streets of New York to take in the city’s world-famous architecture, then gain a fresh perspective by taking a 1.5-hour round trip between Manhattan and New Jersey on a Seastreak Ferry, which welcomes dogs on the outside decks – for free!
Dogs-welcome Transport
To travel across Manhattan, New York’s Pet Taxi (227 E 56th St – telephone 212-755-1757) will transport you and your dog wherever you want to go.
